Incredible Article Marketing Case Study - Brain Picking Secrets That I Have Learned

Article marketing is one of my favourite methods of traffic generation. The reason for this is that it generates the highest quality lead possible.

I have just noticed that I have written over 580 articles. These have created 58,000 page views, 4510 url clicks to my squeeze page and been published 2,500 times. These are really amazing statistics and I have just gotten going with my article marketing efforts.

In this article I would like to go through the lessons that I have learned from this. When I first started out I was not so sure what to expect from article marketing.

The one most valuable lesson that I have learned from all of this is that it takes time to develop skill. I remember when I started out I really was terrible at writing. As I continually did this I gradually improved. Over time you get better and better. However, when you first start out it will seem like a very big hurdle that you need to climb.

The biggest disappoint about this method of promoting your website is that after 100 articles you may not see that fantastic results yet. However, keep on going the results will be worth it over time. As you continue your results will get better and better. This is a long term strategy and if you are looking for quick results I do not suggest that you attempt this at all because you will totally get frustrated.

Now the most important part of marketing this way is that your leads are a lot more responsive and more likely to buy from you. One of the biggest problems with building a list is actually getting people to buy from you. It is not as easy as what people say. People only buy from other people that they like, know and trust.

List Building: Why Blogs Work

Now that your list building page is up and running, you need ways to drive traffic to it, right? What's the easiest, fastest way to get that traffic? A blog. Why?

Actually there are many reasons, but the primary one is because a blog is a traffic magnet. That traffic filters down to your squeeze page, and BANG! You're list building.

Here are some ideas for ways to get traffic to your blog:

  • Search engines will bring tons of traffic, since they love blogs. After about 6 months, a blog can be ranked highly, if it provides the content that search engines are looking for. Any site that ranks highly ends up where? On the first page of search results. If you've done your homework before choosing your niche, you'll know just how many searches there were for your keywords. Hopefully, you've chosen a term that gets a lot of searches. If you rank highly, you'll get that many eyeballs looking at your listing right there on the first page. They can't escape it!
  • You can get traffic to your blog by joining places like MyBlogLog.com, Blog Explosion.com, or MySpace.com, for instance. These are communities of bloggers, and you may find some people who are interested in your niche. They'll read your blog religiously and probably sign up for your list..
  • Exchange blog links with people. Invite them to put your link into their "blogroll," and ask them to put your link into theirs.
  • Write guest columns in other people's blogs, or ask people to write guest pieces in yours. Be sure your guests let their blog readers know that they've put an article on your blog, too, so you get the benefit of their subscriber bases, while they get the benefit of yours. You'll both be list building.
  • Write a press release about a blog entry and submit it each time you have something important to tell people. By important, I mean earth-shattering, not that your baby just lost its first tooth. A guest columnist would be a good example of something to write about in a press release.
  • Advertise in an Ezine, just as you would a product or service.
  • Use pay-per-click to advertise your blog, and get the benefit of a wide range of viewers. If you're able to make money with your blog, then, PPC may well be worth the price.
These are just a few of the many ideas that might come to you about advertising your blog, which will breed traffic and enhance your list building efforts. The end game, though, is getting people to click on your links and to opt-in to your list.

You can use your blog as a secondary list building page, too. Put an opt-in box at the very top. If people enjoy your blog, they'll probably opt-in to your list without even going to your list building page.

The whole key to making your blog effective in driving traffic to your list building page is to make your blog worthwhile. If you think you'll get anything by throwing together a pile of junk that nobody wants to read and that's only updated once a quarter, you're wrong. But if you write a great blog, you'll be building a great list in no time. Blogs are just the fastest, easiest way to get things done.

Sean Mize - Underground Article Marketing Excellence Part 2

As a List Building Superstars (LBS) speaker, Sean Mize stuck to the same straight-ahead approach that he uses in his own e-mail correspondence, sales letters, and teleseminars. A style undoubtedly welcomed by listeners often jaded by fast-talking self-promoters.

Sean's Three Strategies for Generating Article Marketing Content.

1. Volume, Volume, VOLUME!

Mize is unwavering in his call for large quantities of quality articles that merit placement in the best e-zines. Therefore, set aside 2-3 hours for uninterrupted writing every day, plus another 2-3 hours for article submissions to the directories.

2. Adding Back Links through Article Submissions.

By tracking purchases of his information products, Sean discovered that traffic generated through articles converted best. So, the message is clear - give motivated readers the information they seek, and they are more likely to become buyers and repeat customers. Like many marketers, Mize uses free giveaway reports to attract list subscribers.

3. Stick to the Basics.

Sean Mize's formula for article marketing success is simple: Produce 20 original articles weekly, and have the patience to let them percolate up the directory and search engine rankings. Mize is definitely anti-Private Label Rights (PLR). He opposes reused and slightly altered content on the grounds that they do not work for the reader nor the marketer looking for traffic. Search engines flag duplicate articles, and consequently do not rank them.

Even if they did work, it would be an unfair manipulation of search engine rankings. The articles most likely would be poorly written, aimed at robots instead of human beings.

Words of Caution...

Sean noted that expanding broadband technology is making it harder for Internet Marketers to capture, hold, and retain a prospect's attention. There is a lot of readily-accessible stimuli (i.e. audio, video, graphics, podcasts, etc.) and users no longer have to wait for one download before moving on to the next thing. So, offer incentives for users to opt-in to your list, even at the risk of attracting too many "tire-clickers".

Article marketing is definitely not for everyone. Experience shows that only a small percentage of people have the discipline to carry out such a "ruthless" writing campaign and make it succeed. Furthermore, marketers who crave speed probably have a skill set oriented towards other areas (e.g. Pay-per-Click (PPC)).

Mize suggests that we get to know potential joint venture (JV) partners as people first before making a commitment, article marketing-related or otherwise. Also, be selective about what affiliate products and programs to promote. Affiliate marketing, by definition, removes a lot of personal risk. However, your reputation will be determined by the recommendations you make to subscribers.

What it Really Takes...

Writing-oriented marketers should welcome the idea that you can succeed online without state-of-the-art graphics, a killer app, or a significant advertising budget.

However, the amount of articles demanded by Mize's formula for success raises some questions:

1. What role should "ghostwriting", i.e. paying someone to write original articles for you, play for a serious article marketer?

2. Does Sean personally use services like elance and getafreelancer? If so, what percentage of his articles are "ghost-written"?

3. Can you really control the originality and quality of outsourced writing? Is it really any better than PLR articles?

This is the age of globalization, and outsourcing is a fact of life in all fields including Internet Marketing. At the very least, even prolific authors need to consider the ghostwriting option and its implications.

Conclusion.

Sean Mize is an articulate speaker who is quite direct about why he is successful. His online business tactics are transparent, and neatly tie together all three core Internet skills:

Traffic generation through article marketing to build a monetizable opt-in list that is ready, willing, and able to purchase information products...

Search Engine Optimization Tips

What is SEO?

SEO is the active practice of promoting a web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines. It is focused on website promotion by improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural (organic) search results for targeted keywords.

Search Engine Optimization Companies that practice SEO can vary; some have a highly specialized focus, while others take a broader and general approach. Optimizing a web site for search engines can require looking at so many unique elements that many Professional Search Engine Optimizers (SEO experts) consider themselves to be in the broad field of website optimization (since so many of those elements intertwine).

We have listed out some of the most essential Search Engine Optimization ethics that needs to be formulated for website promotion:

Directory Submission

Directory submission is a great source of links to the website. Submissions to web directories are the best place to start promoting a new site. Web directories offer links for free, for a fee or in exchange for a link.

Tips:

  • Always submit to relevant and most appropriate category
  • Try to submit to a quality page
  • If paid submission, then be sure to check the relevancy and quality of the link page
  • If Reciprocal, then exchange link with similar PR or a page with higher PR.

Link Popularity

Link Building or back links are very important for optimizing the site on search engines. Google counts every back link as a vote delivered for your website but also considers the quality of the page linking to your website. So, only relevant and quality pages with less number of links should be preferred for Link building.

Tips:

  • Always choose relevant and quality pages for link building
  • Free one way links are the best
  • Pages that link to your website should be indexed with Google
  • Pages that link to your website should be no more than 2 clicks away from the home page and should contain no more than 30 links on the page.

Social Bookmarking

Social Book Marking has become a very important strategy in the SEO process. Social bookmarking sites are "tag based"- which means you can "tag" them with keywords so your visitors that bookmark your site can find them easily later. Search engines when crawl, index these tags, as well as the link, so you are essentially getting free one-way links from high-traffic sites, with all of your keywords attached to them.

Tips:

  • Chose proper tags for your web listing
  • Share your bookmarks with your friends and others
  • Promote your bookmarks as well
  • Comment on others bookmark and let others comment on yours

Keyword Research and Analysis

Keywords play the most important role when it comes to website optimization. As search Engines need just the most informative and useful sites for their visitors, they prefer the sites containing content with the highest priority of the keywords being searched.

Expert Keyword Research is the cornerstone to a successful SEO.

Tips:

  • Always chose keywords relevant to your site's theme
  • Use multi-word phrases
  • Research keywords specifically for each page
  • Country specific Keyword Research
  • Perform Effective Keyword Analysis
  • Ongoing Keyword Research

The "Google Sandbox Theory" - Is Your Website Stuck?

There is major speculation that Google has a Sandbox that captures websites and holds them up from being ranked well for search terms. Webmasters around the world started to notice that their new websites that have well optimized pages and full of inbound links were not ranking well for their selected keywords.

The most reported outcome went along these lines the website would appear in the search engine results page for a couple of weeks and then pages would get de indexed or ranked extremely low for the main keywords very odd as some people are extremely good at designing well optimized sites this becomes very annoying. The pattern of this web behavior was tracked down to sites that were created or domains purchased around March 2004 I know that seemed a long time ago now but the sandbox effect started around that time.

So some webmasters had to suffer the sandbox effect were websites are held up from ranking well for the terms until they have had a good delay. The delay is like the aging of the website till it is regarded as stable in terms of how the website develops. This would appear to protect the web from very smart people coming in and just making websites that beat everyone overnight.

Then around February 2005 there was a major shakeup in the Google algorithm for how websites are ranked were many websites saw extreme fluctuations in the way some established sites lost ground while other lower ranked sites gained ground. The best way to describe the effect of the Google sandbox is a time delay. They won't allow a new site to go from nothing to the top of the tree without aging and steady link building.

This protects their search engine from dubious black hat SEO experts being able to get sites ranked well overnight. This also helps Google maintain a level of quality for the searches produced remember that the most important factor for Google is its customers or was before shareholders got involved. Being able to produce the best website for any given search term is the main goal as well as the policy of don't be evil bit they like us to consider.

The Google Sandbox is getting smarter and more refined as the years have gone on and nowadays if you want your website to rank well for a given search term you will have to produce an exceptional site with good fresh non duplicate content. The website will have to have an excellent site structure and most important it will have to be relevant and have a build up of related links over a long period of time.

Getting a website up and running and up the Google tree is now a long term business strategy and the rules are there to be followed. Some short cuts can be made but not many as these are getting closed out with each search algorithm update. Long term strategy of link building is the key to success and there is something you can do to help that by joining link metro.

Link metro is a site that allows you to join and request links from other website partners on that site free to join so check it out. By steady building over a long period and not looking at your web business as a flash in the pan but building trust over time will lead to good reward and stability.

Online Article Writing - Giving the Reader Confidence in Your Expert Status

If you write online articles it is important to relate to the reader that you truly know what you are talking about and give them confidence in your expert status. There are many ways to do this and it is best to let it ride or leave it subtly implied. It is best to show them not tell them, although telling them might also be a good idea. For instance after writing 11,111 articles online I am an expert in online article writing and therefore you as a reader might learn quite a bit from me.

This is one way to work into the article the fact that you know what you are talking about. Recently this subject became a very popular subject at the top online article submission website on the Internet, when some asked on the Blog:

What do you do to give the reader confidence that you are the expert, the authority on the topic?

Generally, if you speak from an authoritative voice and talk "matter of factly" the reader will get the idea pretty quick that you hit the subject matter head on and get right into the juicy stuff without delay or a lot of wordy fluff. When I write an article this is what I do and it has indeed worked for me with over 4.3 million article views on one website alone, without counting all the syndicated article views.

Of course it goes without saying that you need to know your subject matter or you should not be discussing the topic at all in my humble opinion. If you know what you are talking about it should show and it is your job to show them with substance, an authoritative voice and a clear direction. Your expert status should be obvious.

Link Building - A Thing In The Past?

All links are not equal on the Internet. And the ones that are worth more to you are those that flow into your site from other sites. It's those links that the search engines take notice of, increasing the ranking of your site in their listings. When your site goes up in the listings, it gets seen by more people and you get more visitors.

One-way link generation has been the aim of web site owners for a long time. Different methods have come (and gone). You may remember the era of the "link farms", where you would be offered links back to your site for a fee. The problem with link farms was that they were content-poor and rated by search engines as spam. While you were not necessarily penalized for having links from such sites to your site, search engines finally accorded no value to these links and therefore no positive change in your search engine ranking.

It's good to understand a little about how search engines think about links. The basic idea is "if a good site has a link to another site, the good site is voting for that other site, so that other site must be quite good as well". Search engines have different ways of measuring what a "good" site is.

Google for example uses its own calculation called Page Rank (in fact, named after Larry Page, one of the founders of Google, even though Page Rank does apply to the specific pages of your site). The more esteem Google has for a site, the higher the Page Rank. The higher the Page Rank for the page where the link to your site has been placed, the higher the value for you.

So in this sense, Page Rank is an interesting indicator. It explains why people are typically more interested in having you put a link on your home page going off to their site, because often it's the home page of the site that attracts the highest Page Rank. It's also a reason for you wherever possible to check on the Page Rank of sites that you would like to see linking to you.

You can do this with directories for example as their Page Rank can be identified using the Google Tool Bar and you can then submit your site. Just watch out for directories (and there are many of them) that insist on a link back from your site. In this case you lose the advantage of a one-way link.

If all this is making you go cross-eyed, let's have a look at some other possibilities. You can pay for one-way links in other ways as well. Pay-per-click adverts are one solution. You make your ad of 20 words or so and you then put a link to the page where you want the viewer to go when they click on your ad.

This has no effect on your search engine ranking, but it can be a big booster in traffic generation. As you pay when a person clicks on your ad (which means they automatically go through to your web site, but not that they automatically buy from you), then make sure that you are getting a return on your investment. Internet also now has several sites offering classified ads. Sometimes, perhaps for a limited number of ads, this can be free. Other solutions ask a flat fee for including your ad in their pages.

Don't want to pay? You don't have to, if you are prepared to do some work. You can also get your one-way links by writing and submitting articles. Write your articles around keywords that are of interest to you for your site. Then follow article site submission procedures to submit your article and your link back to your site.

Lately, yet other systems have become available. One of these is the three way linking system. The idea is that if you link to a site, and that site links to a third site that then links back to you, you can avoid the reciprocal link trap. There are some finer points to reckon with here. For example, the three sites should not be hosted at the same IP address. But it appears that for the moment, when this system is correctly set up, search engines consider the links to be one-way links in all cases and so each site gets the benefit.

Article Marketing Tips - Are You Using Leverage With Your Old Articles?

Many professional writers create dozens of articles every single day. The problem is that these articles are just a one time thing. There is a smart way to use leverage and maximize your profits with the same amount of work. This is called leverage. Let me show you how to do it step by step.

First, you need to take every single paragraph from your previous article separately. I mean that if you created an article with several paragraph, you should have seven articles.

Now that you have several articles ready to submit to the articles directory sites, you can create a short report that you will add as a bribe for people who land on your optin page.

You will request their name and email address in exchange for your report.

From one article, you got seven new articles, a free pdf report that build your list of subscribers for you.

But you can do even more than this. What about turning your ebook into an mp3 audio file?

Think about it because many people will not find the time to read your valuable ebook. However, if they can plug your audio into their ipod while they are to the gym, they will use your content.

Once you start getting subscribers into your autoresponder sequence, it's time to send them something that they can buy. If you provided good content, they will be happy to buy from you.

You already have your mp3 files now. All you need to do is to add more to your free pdf report and sell both.

You can even prepare an e-course from your articles and sell it for a one time fee or sell it on a recurring basis as a membership site. I mean that you give them the articles on a weekly or monthly basis for a recurring fee.

Plus you can also use your articles for more buzz in discussion boards. Just tweak them a little bit, and make new threads that get read hundreds or thousands of time.

You see, one article can be turned into a full money getting business.

Article Marketing - Why My Articles Disappear From Google First Page After A Couple Of Weeks?

If you are wondering why your articles disappear a couple of weeks after they hit the first page of Google, you want to read this article.

Many people wonder were is this 'magic' lifetime traffic everyone is talking about, but the problem is that they start with highly competitive niches like Internet marketing or make money online.

Should you submit articles with the same keywords again and again or you need to alternate the keywords for different articles?

Or do you need to ignore those keyphrases since you know that your articles won't last long in the different search engines?

First, your rankings have a lot to see with the keyword you choose for your articles.

Secondly, it depends on your niche as well. For example, when you start with one of the most competitive niches, you have thousands and thousands of competitors submitting articles with the exact same keywords.

I am not saying that you can't make money in a competitive niche. You can, but other niches are not so crowded and your articles will be found more often in the search engines.

I would advise to vary the keywords you are targeting. Plus you don't need to always write with your keywords in mind. The more articles you get out there, the more income.

As for articles disappearing for the search results after a couple of weeks, this is normal. Competition is one of the factor that affect your rankings. Plus you also have an initial boost when you are on the first page of the article directory.

But remember, it's a web page and every single web page need a lot of incoming links to rank well.

Keep writing articles with great keywords and long tails as well. Don't give up. Remember that article marketing works very well for smaller niche.

To find more great keywords for your articles, you need to use the wordtracker tool. They have a free trial as well.

Link Building - Search Engine Optimization Golden Key

For anyone who doubts that link building is one of the most important factors in ranking at the top of the search engines, just type the phrase miserable failure into Google to see what happens. You will see the president of our nation coming up as number one. I find it very interesting that the words miserable failure do not appear a single time on George Bush's site. Why, you may ask, is this so?

This is so from a technique called Google bombing. Google spiders while they go out and index the world wide web, look for quantity and quality and relevance of links pointing to a website. A large group of politically minded astute computer people chose to link the words miserable failure to George Bush's site. In turn, they Google bombed him.

This alone is proof that linking is very affective to rank at the top of the search engines. It is a known fact that Google and the Google- bots are constantly surveying the entire net. In this process of surveying, they follow the links to and from almost every site on the internet. Google is currently indexing over 8 billion sites. You can imagine when their spiders and bots are trying to figure out who to put this at the top, they need to be able to use several factors. Linking becomes a democratic process. The more links you get, the more votes for you websites you obtain. The way Google sees it, is that the other websites are willing to link to you, so you must be important! They also look at how important and relevant the sites that link to you are. Therefore, it is not just quantity, it is also quality.

In my articles, I will always give some suggestions on things to avoid, as well as things to do. Two of the worst things to avoid in terms of linking are called link farms and webrings. Linkfarms and webrings are where hundreds and sometimes thousands of websites all agree to link to each other quickly. This is not a natural technique and therefore Google spiders will red flag and sometimes even ban sites from doing well in the rankings.

Article Marketing - Don't Stop Your Reader From Going to the Resource Box in Your Articles

If you are using Article Marketing to build your list or bring visitors to your web site or blog, one of the most important parts of your article in the article resource box. The resource box is where you get to invite the reader to your web site or blog for more information.

Very few writers know how to craft a prospect pulling resource box. Most do not do it well. The most amazing mistake I see are the article writers that actually stop the reader from ever getting to the resource box.

Sound strange? How do you know you are not doing it?

The 2 Biggest Resource Box Stop Signs

The first biggest stop sign is what I call a "hard end" to the article. By this I mean that you write in a way that the end of the article is way too clear. You might as well put "The End" like in a movie in the way you have worded the article.

The mistake there is the reader gets the message, "Oh, this is over. I'm outta here," and they are not likely to read further.

What to do instead: Don't stop the reader, lead them right into the resource box with a soft transition.

The second biggest stop sign is starting the resource box with information about you. This also announces "the article is over and you can stop reading now!"

What to do instead: Save the information about you for the last line of the resource box. Begin your resource box with an invitation to the reader to visit your web site or blog for more information.

Increasing An Online Businesses' Survival Through SEO

Surviving in the very competitive world of the Internet is a daily grind that most online businesses and organizations take into full consideration. The number of visitors, clicks, views, or direct purchases, are very important matters that truly gauge the viability and longevity of an online entity.

According to search engine industry veterans, the single major factor to an online firm's lack of successful Internet marketing, is simply because no one has seen their site yet, or most wouldn't mind taking a second look at what they have to offer.

A lot of online entities spend large amounts of money on well-intentioned but outright traditional marketing plans, placing so much emphasis on advertising platforms such as print, radio, television, direct mail, telemarketing, and trade shows, and yet only scant detail on their Web sites. Firms like these are sure to miss out on the vast opportunity that the art of search engine optimization (SEO) offers in helping their web sites become more productive, cost-efficient, and profitable marketing tools.

SEO Doesn't Work wonders Overnight Though

The art and technique of effectively optimizing an online Web site or business is

a method that is not expected to generate results overnight, and getting targeted traffic, top rankings in the major search engines and generating more online will surely take some time. As the process does not guarantee quick results, Web business owners and developers need to create a coherent and consistent approach to implementing an optimization program.

There is a certain amount of satisfaction in achieving goals and modifying strategies as the search engine algorithms change. An online firm needs to take note that if they simply focus on one search engine, like Google for example, the rankings in the other search engines should also follow. The process of SEO does not have to be an expensive and daunting process, however it will probably take a considerable investment of some part from you.

SEO Experts help You Create And Market Good-Quality Site Content

Most SEO experts are aware that inbound-link-generating methods really are effective However, the process of getting one-way inbound links that give the most promise, is through distributing quality content. Through this method, you will be giving other Web sites content to put on their pages, in exchange for a link to your site. The benefits of distributing content for links is that the links generally generate more traffic than links on a 'resources' page.

In addition, your article will pre-sell readers on the value of your site. The tough thing however, is that it's no small amount of work to create original content and then distribute it to hundreds of website owners.

SEO helps online firms have a better keyword analysis, as well as promote your Web site accordingly. The process better enables online firms to understand the wide-ranging aspects of SEO, which includes page optimization, building quality links, keyword analysis, and off page optimization.

With SEO, you can effectively generate a better and more coherent online presence of your Web site. In order to better promote your site, you need to spread the message about what your site is, how it works, and what services does it offer.

Through the optimization process, you will be able to effectively create press releases about your products and submit it to other sites, to make it familiar to online visitors, and also by posting a description of your site on online e-newsletters and magazine. These are means of quickly spreading the message of your site properly, and this is but one of the many aspects that SEO works on.

Article Marketing - How Many Must I Write?

There is a lot of talk about article marketing as an effective strategy to bring traffic to your blog or website for free. However, there is often debate about just how many articles it takes to work.

Here are some suggestions to clear up the confusion.

The more the merrier. This is the simple answer to the quantity question. Article marketing is a numbers game. The more individual articles that you have out there, the more chances you have that someone interested in your niche will find it, read it and click on your link. So if you are able to produce ten thousand articles, you will be doing better than the guy who only submits three in a year.

Christopher Knight, operator of EzineArticles.com, the largest free article directory on the web, says that just a few articles can bring traffic, but that the real flow starts to be felt when you get to around 250.

However, like all debates there are some provisos to that. It's not just about quantity. Naturally, no two articles are equal. The very fact that an article has been written and submitted does not mean that it will automatically bring a set number of clicks.

The four key factors that determine the effectiveness of any article are :

  • The niche - some niches generate more interest than others. Making money will always do better than slug farming.
  • The length - long, densely worded articles are less likely to be widely distributed than, short, snappy, bulleted pieces.
  • The quality - a well written and relevant article will gain wider distribution and will probably be read more, which in turn will lead to more click throughs.
  • The resource box - a badly written resource box can ruin a good article's chances of bringing traffic.

Finally, when considering how many articles you should write, you have to take into account your ability and the available time. If you can only fit in your writing late at night or at the weekends, then you are better to produce two or three, well targeted, quality articles per week and build your portfolio steadily, than try to create ten, sub standard pieces that will not get picked up. So in conclusion, yes, article marketing is a numbers game, but don't worry if you haven't got an article factory in your basement. A good writer who conforms to the rules can still beat a prolific hack any day.

15 Things to Remember When Doing On Page SEO

There are two main areas to consider when undertaking an SEO project - on-page and off-page. On-page optimisation refers to the work done to the coding, content, layout and structure of the site, in order to improve its search engine ranking. Off-page optimisation refers to the work done away from the site in order to increase its search engine ranking by means of increasing the number of good quality backlinks pointing back to the site. Here are 15 things to remember when doing on-page optimisation for your site:

1. Make sure each page of your site has a unique and keyword rich title tag.

2. Make sure you have unique, well written meta description tags for each page.

3. Make sure you link key phrases in your site back to the relevant pages in your site (internal linking).

4. Make sure your ALT tags are descriptive of each image and work in keywords where possible.

5. Check the site navigation is not in Javascript or Flash, which search engines have trouble reading.

6. Make sure text content of all pages contain keywords, and that they are relevant to that page

7. If you are taking the site over from somebody else, check site for any black hat tactics (hidden text, keyword stuffing) and alter where necessary.

8. Make sure that there are no anchor text with "click here" or similar; internal links should have descriptive anchor text.

9. Ensure all text is written in text, and not contained within an image. Google cannot yet read text that is contained within an image.

10. Ensure the robots.txt file is present and configured correctly if needed.

11. Ensure XML sitemap is present, and submit it to Google Webmaster Tools.

12. Check Google Analytics code with conversion tracking is included.

13. Check there are no possibly unspiderably long URL query strings.

14. Check site with W3C validator to ensure compliance with all browsers.

15. Ensure on site sitemap is accurate.
