Top 5 Article Marketing Mistakes

I am sure that if you are reading this article then you must have attempted marketing your business with this method of marketing or you have given up trying to market this way because the results were very disappointing.

In this article I would like to share with you the top 5 mistakes that people make when trying to market their business using article marketing.

1) Inconsistency

The number one reason that people fail with this method is that they are too inconsistent. You cannot write one day and then not again for a few days. You need to do this every day and be very strict about it. In fact you can apply this to your home based internet business as well. You need focus and persistence to succeed.

2) Not writing enough articles

To succeed online with this method you need to be writing at least ten to twenty articles a day. If you are doing less than this you simply will not be making enough noise in the market place to succeed.

3) Drive traffic to a squeeze page

The number one thing that you need to do to succeed online is build a list. This is so that you can market over and over again to your prospects.

4) Overcome writer's block

As you write every day there will be days when you just do not feel like writing. It is very important that you go to gym or do some activity to keep yourself energized. So that when you get back you can start again.

5) Create a killer bio

Your bio contains the link to your squeeze page. It is very important that you have your unique selling proposition here so that people will want to click through to your web site.

How to Establish a Budget for SEO

SEO (search engine optimization) is an incredibly young and volatile marketing realm. As a marketing manager with great expectations for SEO, you likely feel intense pressure to generate a great ROI, but you also feel dizzy from the possibilities and risks inherent to any internet marketing adventure.

Before you and your accounting team pull out your calculators and Excel spreadsheets, you MUST organize your strategic marketing goals. If you don't spell out these goals explicitly - and harmonize them with your vision for your company - you will burn up your investment and fast. Think of building a budget for SEO like designing a house. Unless and until you select the right neighborhood and style of house (vision) and map out the architectural skeleton (strategy), you will be hammering nails (budgeting tactics) essentially at random. And this will inevitably lead to a big mess.

That said, let's get down into the nitty gritty and discuss SEO budgeting tactics that work.

Three ways to gauge your project's budget:

  1. base your numbers on a (successful) past campaign that's similar to yours.
  2. aim to capture a specific share of your SEO market, and work backwards (based on figures published by competitors) to determine what SEO resources to deploy and where.
  3. designate a target percentage of total sales you wish to achieve though SEO marketing and work backwards to make this figure a reality.

What percentage of your total marketing budget should go into SEO internet marketing:

if you're selling pharmaceuticals or herbal products, you may want to go as high as 25%.

the average (across industries) is somewhere around 6%, but this figure will likely grow as SEO gains prominence as a marketing tool.

If you advertise primarily in the brick-and-mortar realm and/or have an unusual online demographic, your percentage could dip to 2% or lower.

Other important info to keep in mind:

nearly 90% of all business traffic generated from Google, Yahoo, and the other search engines comes from organic listings.

every month, nearly 6 billion search engine queries are made.

The top three search returns generate over 91 percent of traffic.

2 Reasons Article Marketing Drives Quality Prospects to Your Website

Article marketing in my experience has rewarded me with some of the highest traffic my websites have ever received. For this reason alone, I will always put article marketing at the top of my priority list when it comes to promoting my products or services.

So, what makes article marketing so special?

The first reason is that you are pre selling your readers before they have even begun thinking about entering your site. This is important because when they finally do enter your website, they don't have to be warmed up anymore. Your readers obviously felt that you had answered their question or solved one of their problems. Now they want more, and they feel that you might actually be able to offer them something of value.

The second reason why article marketing works really great is because it enables you to put less guess work in what your visitor is looking for. Think about that for a while; the reader decided to click on your headline link in order to read your article because your headline obviously had something of interest to offer him or her.

The reader then finally clicks on the link that leads to your website in the bio area. This most likely means that your article quenched his or her thirst. This understanding is important because it allows you to develop a product that is directly related to your article.

This will once again quench your reader's thirst and turn them into buyers. Why, because you knew exactly what they were looking for

Tips to Advance in Article Marketing

Article marketing, which is a simple term for a fairly simple process, consists of distributing articles and content that you have written to other websites, eZines or blogs for free. You might wonder why youd distribute this for free: essentially, the best article marketing involves distributing articles in exchange for receiving a short biography and links to your website in a little blurb that appears at the end of your article.

To produce more traffic for your site with the best article marketing, make sure you target your audience well. You know the type of people you want to come to your site, so write articles that they would find interesting, and distribute these articles to places that they would likely go. The best article marketing will be targeted directly to those you want to attract to your site.

The best article marketing should also involve articles that are recent and relevant. Of course, depending on your website and field, there may be reasons for other types of articles, but content that is new or hot will attract more hits and be distributed more widely. Obviously, the more websites that pick up your articles and thus link back to your home page the better.

Another tip regarding the best article marketing is to not only use distribution services like iSnare to submit your articles. These free services aid you in distributing your articles. However, although the basic service is free, a minimal few dollars can often get you a much larger and more active distribution range and thus produce more links back to your site.

In short, the best article marketing can greatly improve both the traffic to your site and your sites ranking on popular search engines without the often shady services of an SEO. Article marketing can be very lucrative, and starting today is a smart idea for your site.

The Basic Six of Online Marketing

As small business owners, we have many options for communicating with our prospective customers. The Internet has become the primary medium for reaching potential clients anywhere across the globe. Online marketing is the use of the Internet to advertise and sell goods and services. Below are Six Basic areas of Online Marketing to start with. As you become more familiar with your business and the Internet your options will grow:

1. Search engine marketing (SEM), is a set of marketing methods to increase the visibility of your web site in a search engine results pages. For instance, if you go to google.com and do a search, based on key words used in your business, SEM will determine whether youre on the first page you see or the tenth page you see. The two most popular methods for new businesses using SEM are:

a. Search Engine Optimization: Creating a web site that makes use of relevant keywords according to what your target market would search on; as a result your web site can be easily read and understood by search engines.

b. Search Engine Advertising (Pay Per Click): In order to get a higher ranking as someone searches for your key words, you can pay the search engine company for a guaranteed high ranking or an ad displayed aside the results. This is called pay per click.

All businesses should get their site optimized with key words. The pay per click option will be based on your budget.

2. Banner, Thumbnail, or Text Advertising: This form of online advertising involves putting a graphic (banner/thumbnail) or a text ad on other targeted web sites. It is intended to drive traffic to your web site by making the graphic or a portion of the text ad a link back to your web site or a specific page. You can do this type of advertising in two ways:

a. Ad swap this is a way of acquiring free advertising by finding a business colleague that targets the same market as you do but your solution is completely different.

b. Purchase an Ad there are many sites where you can pay to place your online ad on their web site. For example, if your target market subscribes to the online version of a particular publication, then that publication has online ad rates to place your advertisement on their site.

3. E-mail marketing: This form of online marketing uses email as a means of communicating marketing messages to your target market. Some options of Email marketing may include:

a. Sending an email blast (sending emails to a group of targeted prospects or customers) to promote a new product.

b. Sending an email blast on a monthly basis to prospects letting them know about new services or products.

c. Sending an email blast to the attendees of your last speaking engagement encouraging them to go to your web site, purchase a product you promoted at the event, or just thanking them for attending.

Email marketing can be used in multiple ways but you never want to send unsolicited email. Make sure that those on your distribution list want to be there; this list may be different than those that signed up for your electronic newsletter.

4. Blog Marketing: Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is an online journal that is a web page made up of short, frequently updated comments that are arranged chronologically. The content and purposes of blogs varies greatlyfrom links and commentary about your web sites, to news about your company/business views/ideas, to diaries, photos, poetry, mini-essays, project updates, etc.

Some entrepreneurs use blogs to give their business personality and character by commenting on how they view business and in turn providing links back to their products and services. Others use it to personalize their business so that their clients get a feel for who they are and in turn will comment on their comments and the relationship begins.

5. Article Marketing: This is a great tool for promoting the credibility of your business information. The idea is that you write articles and post them to article database sites to increase your exposure by having your content reproduced around the Internet. Effici uses two main article databases, but the main one is Ezine Articles. You can visit our authors page on ezinearticles.com by going to: www.ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sherese_Johnson

This is how it works, the article database markets Free content for web sites and electronic newsletters. So those entrepreneurs like yourself who are struggling to keep a regular email newsletter going, reprinting articles (like mine) can be a fantastic way to reduce your workload. You can also use these articles to populate a blog, website or any publication as long as you follow the reproduction rules. As of my last review, my latest article has been re-published on at least ten different publications which is what I want.

The catch with article marketing: You have to write articles to do this form of marketing. On the other hand, you can check out the resource listed and get content-rich articles for your publications.

6. Affiliate Marketing: This is a popular method of promoting your business in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber and/or paying customer that the affiliate brings to your business. The most common affiliate activity is providing a commission of a certain percentage for someone promoting your affiliate program with a link that you provide; once this link is clicked by their visitors and they purchase something from your web site, you pay them (referrer) a designated commission for doing so.

Effici has recently set up our affiliate program which pays between 15 % and 20% for referrals. You can view our program to help you get a grasp on how it works by going here: http://www.efficio.biz/affiliates.htm

Our affiliate program was an added feature of our shopping cart service, which is normally the case. The great thing about affiliate marketing is that it is monetarily beneficial to both parties and the reward is instant. Normally there is no fee to become an affiliate and your shopping cart or web hosting service provides all the tools you need within their service.

Keep in mind that any form of marketing takes time and its important to have many streams of marketing established. The basic six is a good place to start. Your web site traffic will keep coming because you have lots of little streams pouring in from many different sources including your offline activities. Unless you do some major publicity work, or have big budgets, using a combination of the basic six over time is one of the best ways to build the foundation for your online marketing campaigns. You may not reach the cash cow at lightening speed, but it will happen.

Online Marketing - Keep Your Integrity

The Internet is filled with endless money making opportunities. While this can be a good thing for those looking for new income, it also has the potential to reel in a scam artist's next victim.

Those who are currently involved with their own online business can tell you about the things that must happen in order to pay the bills and expand their efforts. Yet, responsibility and integrity are often pushed to the side in order to make ends meet and bring new people into the business. It can't be forgotten that people who join with your efforts are investing a lot of time and resources with high hopes of being successful.

One of the popular tactics used today to persuade others is by showing examples of multi-figure paychecks. Though this seems like a good idea, there are likely to be more profitable methods. A better way to capture attention is through the sharing of a heart-felt story behind the beginning stages of starting the business, the emotions that were felt during this time and the methods used to obtain the goals set. This is a much more personal and genuine way to get things going in the right direction. After all, no one else gets to reap the benefits of the big paycheck example. It really just brings the attention to the marketer, instead of a true reflection of how the business could be great for another person.

One of the most important parts of recruiting a representative takes place after the initial set up. There is a responsibility belonging to the marketer to continue fostering a strong, close-knit relationship. It's always a good idea to send a follow up email to provide some additional information about the product or some ways that the product has helped others. This will prove your character as being found with integrity or lacking it. A follow up lets the new representative know that the marketer really cares. It is a way to show that your new members are valued much more than just added income to your paycheck.

The responsible approach is help your representatives through the rough and smooth times, as well as offer new methods or ideas that seem to be working. Also, keep in mind that not everyone will fit the same mold. Your new members will likely have fear of failure on their minds. Older members will likely be facing different challenges. The best suggestion is to lay the options out on the table for people to take what they need and leave the rest.

Article Marketing - The Shocking Truth

Do you know the truth about article marketing? Article Marketing is one of the most powerful ways of creating a flow of traffic to your website, but you should know the whole truth.

If you are looking for a shot in your wallet over night then you are going to be disappointed. Article marketing is not designed to create this kind of income.

The major benefit of article marketing is longevity. The articles that you write today will serve you long into the future. In time you will find that the traffic visiting your website this month may have been generated by an article you wrote 3 months, 6 months, or more than a year ago. It is said that the older a fine wine is the better it gets. Article marketing works in much the same way. The longer you have been writing articles the more traffic will generated.

No, article marketing will not cause your bank account to grow by a number of zeros over night. You will see the zeros but they will come over time.

Think of article marketing kind of like a $1 membership site. The first month you get 100 subscribers. I know $100 per month does not sound like much but think of the growth over a six month period. The second month another 250 members join. Then 500 the third month, another 500 the fourth, 750 the fifth, and on the sixth month another 1000 join your membership site. You have grown from a mere $100 the first month to $3100 in the sixth month. This type of site has a cumulative effect. So does Article Marketing.

I know from experience that article marketing can be a bit frustrating in the beginning. Sometimes it seems like you are working so hard and seeing nothing in return. To be honest I hated it and almost quit on more than one occasion. When you are using article marketing as your entire source of advertising there is a virtue that you either must have or must develop and that is patience.

I set a goal for myself by deciding that I wanted 1000 articles published in one years time. Then I divided that number by 260 (52 weeks divided by 5 work days per week) and came up with a total of 4. Therefore I need to write a minimum of 4 articles per day.

Writing is the hardest but most important part. Decide how many articles you need per day and make sure you write them. Be consistent. Be diligent. Be disciplined. Be successful.

List Building: Setting Up a Synergistic List-Building System

Getting started with any project is the most important thing, and we don't always do it right. For instance, here is where people lose a lot of money, so this is really important.

If you're doing a teleseminar series, drive traffic, including your own list members to your list building squeeze page and be list building around a group of people who might be interested in the calls.

This is a great opportunity to monetize the thank you page, after people have joined the list, via the "homework" link or the "pre-call training." What youll find is that if only 30 to 50 percent of the people that sign up for your teleseminar list actually show up for the call, you still end up selling a certain percentage of them some product, right? It's like a head start.

Anyway, this happens in the first week of promotions. Drive traffic to your primary list building page for the whole series of calls.

At the same time, send three sample emails about the calls series to each of your speakers (and I would have three different emails--sequential emails), and say, Send these three emails about the teleseminar series or customize them to sound more like you.

If you have six speakers, be sure you get on all six of their lists, so that you know whether the emails were actually sent to their lists. And get each person to commit to the specific days that theyre going to send out. Get absolute dates. Im going to send out on a Wednesday, August 12th, Im going to send out on Thursday, August 13th and Im going to send out on Friday, August 15th.

And then those mornings, the first thing that you do is you pick up the phone and call the people who agreed to send out that day. Its your job to get as many of those people to mail out as possible, okay, and they wont. Its your job to motivate them to hustle and to remind them in a nice way, but make sure you get an absolute commitment from them in email and over the phone and make sure they have it written on their calendars.

For the Second week and subsequent weeks (assuming you hold a call once a week), change the destination URL for each speaker's affiliate link to the list building page for their particular event. If you have six people to interview, you should have seven squeeze pages for list building, including the one you used to advertise the entire series and one for each speaker.

Then what you can do is, one or two days before each call, get the person you're going to interview to send another message out to his or her list about their call. Tell your partners, What weve done is changed the destination of your affiliate link and it goes straight to the squeeze page for your interview.

Now heres the key; this is magic what Im about to explain to you. The key is you set up your autoresponder, and what youre going to do is when people opt-in for a particular call, whats going to happen is theyre going to be opting-in to a list for the speaker's call, and set it up so that you're list building, too, and that people are opting-in to your main list. Then, be sure to set your main list up so that it doesnt allow for multi-subscribes.

The main concept is because Bobby Jones is going to be driving straight to his squeeze page for his interview, you want to make sure that people get popped into your primary list as well, so that when you promote the calls in the future, you have everybody in one place.

Plus, for the thank you pages for your speaker's calls, you use a thank you page for their primary product, and make a bunch of money. Plus, you've been list building the whole way. The money's great, but it's really the list that matters. From a list, you can make money over, and over, and over again, even after the teleseminar series is over.

How You Can Dominate Any Niche With Keyword Elite

At most, a good piece of software will make a webmaster's or marketer's job a little easier and a little quicker. Rarely does a piece of software come along that changes not only how the game is played, but changes the whole playing field itself.

  • 5. Spy on Your Adwords Competition This is perhaps the most useful and powerful function of Keyword Elite. It will literally spy on your Adwords competitors, tell you which keywords they are using over a long period of time. Basically telling you which keywords your competitors are using to bring in the profits. This project mode is worth the price of this software alone for the serious online marketer. It also changes or levels the playing field where keywords are concerned. You would have to pay thousands to SEO companies to get the same valuable information.

Breakthrough Article Marketing - Managing your Article Marketing in 3 Simple Ways

The total quality management of a business's marketing arms takes more than what it expected. Difficult as it may seem, article marketing is simple and easy to manage when you know what direction it is going into. Below are three of the simplified ways on how you can manage the articles that you are using to have better marketing results:

1. Manage first your articles. Managing articles involves proper manufacturing of article materials to be used for wide distribution. You have to make sure that there is a specific program of schedule that is being followed as to when each article will be released and posted on the publishing sites that you have chosen. You also have to properly check the quality of every article that goes out from your business entity as every article that you release bears your business identity and may put your credibility at risk.

2. After carefully managing your articles, work on managing your marketing mechanism. In this portion, you have to make sure that all plans and strategies about how you can effectively market your articles should be laid out. Manage your resources based on the need to allot these on your marketing scheme. You may engage into some sort of paid advertisements to be able to maximize your marketing arms.

3. Lastly, you need to know when to stop and rev up the release of your marketing materials. This is best achieved by tracking and monitoring the daily and weekly progress and development that each article that you released on the net. Thru the monitoring that you conduct, you will have a view as to which part of the plan does well and does not perform well. In which case, you can then better determine what could be wrong with your material and your marketing plan.

Link Bait - How To Do It Well

Now that you know a little bit more about the fundamentals of writing link bait, we need to take a closer look at some strategies that will ramp up the likelihood that you will hit your intended traffic targets.

First of all, you have to choose the type of writing and style that YOU are most comfortable with. Different people have different strengths, and equally as important, varying degrees of comfort and tolerance for what KIND of strategic content they want to put out there in the wild. I will tell you straight away that in my experience, online as well as off (where it's simply referred to as buzz or publicity) Confrontation and Controversy work the best. Why? It's actually quite simple. EVERYONE has an opinion - some are on the fence, some deeply entrenched on one side or the other. Stirring the pot is the primary function of writing this type of material, and you are guaranteed not only a HUGE response, but also some pretty heavy handed conversation as well, so be prepared for this if you approach it from this angle.

What would the process look like? Well, let's say you are in a political niche market....Or maybe a market that has some tie in to religious issues, etc. Simply challenging very popularly held beliefs in a direct, straightforward and entertaining way is going to bring people out of the woodwork! You'll have the "on the fence" people coming by to see what all the commotion is about, you'll have the true believers who share your position (whichever it may be) RUSHING to your defense and substantiating your arguments and ADDING their own, and of course, you'll have the contrarians denouncing every noun, verb and silly, sinful syllable you said..:-)

The net effect? You have started a conversation that spreads like wildfire as MANY people link to the brew-ha-ha you created; you win over a whole slew of new readers, and ensure that you have earned the acrimony of many others as well. Don't worry though, they'll keep coming back and reading too!

There you have it! A quick look at creating some good link bait. Of course there is much more...but for now, go out there and ruffle some feathers! Good luck.:-)

Are you a Guru Groupie? Enough! It's Time For You to STEP up & stake your OWN claim!

If You Want to write KILLER link bait and make more money I am going to very simply show you how you can - starting today, earn more money, quickly, easily and ethically using elegant marketing principles that are timeless, powerful and simply work and do it in short order. Link Building - What is a Quality Link?

Link building is almost the synonym of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ever since the infamous link bombing that leads people who search for miserable failures in Google to our president George W. Bushs resume on official white house website. Of course, Bushs resume page has nothing to do with the term miserable failures which not really many will search for in the search engine. And the Bushs presidency is up to history to judge.

So every Joe and Mary want quality links to their websites. Thats what Google has been repeatably telling webmaster community too if anyone asks the question why my site didnt rank well. Its a consensus that quality links is the decisive factor in search engine positioning. However, the difference in many cases is that different webmasters or link builders may have totally different criteria or opinions what is a quality or good link.

Webmasters new to the SEO playfield believe a link from a page with a high PageRank (PR) is a quality link. A pages PR is a numeric value visually displayed on Googles toolbar if you have installed one on your IE browser. Knowledgeable site owners realize that a quality link is a link from a high PR site relevant to your site. Not quiet that simple. Therere quality links that are PR0 (Google updates PR about every quarter). Its more likely that Google updates only a portion of index database for toolbar in every update. Thats one of reasons many see no change of their homepage PR for a year even though they havent stopped link building. On the other hand, we often see PR0 pages rank well for not-very-competitive keywords.

Many high PR and relevant links arent really necessary quality links. In the process of helping hundreds of clients promote their websites - SEO service or link building, we have received all types of different link requests. Some want to certain types of links and others dont want to links built from certain types of techniques. The truth is that its really not about the types of links you get. Theres a huge quality difference for the same types of links. Its not about what techniques you use to build links, and its about how you use each technique to acquire links.

Theres a simple way to see whether a link is a true quality link. For a particular search term, if a page is in top 200 or top 1,000 in a particular search engine (Google, Yahoo or MSN), the links from those pages are true quality links for that search engine. Yes, a quality link in Google may not be a quality link for Yahoo and MSN. You wont find many or any of those pages from high PR directory pages which will charge you $20 to $40 or even more for a listing. The reason is simple. The links to those directory pages arent relevant to the content of those pages. Links from those pages are high PR, relevant to your page, but they arent true quality links.

How Links Can Boost Your Search Engine Page Ranking

It is well known that one of the best search engine optimization (SEO) techniques is to create incoming links to your website. As general rule, the more links there are to your website, the more popular it will be with the search engines.

However, much depends on where the links are coming from as some links can even be damaging to your website's popularity with the search engines. Any SEO professional should be able to help you create the right links for your website. However, if you do not have the budget for this, there are a few steps you can take yourself.

The first thing to remember is that the value of any link to your site will depend on the popularity of the site where the link appears. For example, a link from a site like usatoday.com will be much more beneficial than a link from an obscure website.

When setting up a new website, many companies embark on a link building campaign. This usually involves contacting other website owners requesting that you each place reciprocal links on your sites. There is software available to automate this process for you.

While this can certainly drive traffic to your website, it can also have some disadvantages. Using reciprocal links means that you are encouraging visitors to navigate away from your website. Also, the links to your websites should appear on websites that at least have some popularity.

Another option is to have your website listed in directories. However, links to your site on these directories usually expire after a few days so this is an ongoing process.

You can also market your website while increasing the number of links to it by submitting articles to article directories. Basically, you write articles on certain topics and submit them to article submission sites, or use an article submission service. These articles are available free to whoever wants to use them on the condition that the page where it is published contains your details and a link back to your site.

Ideally, you should write articles on subjects that are relevant to your website and encourage people to use your products or services, without sounding like advertising.

The above methods can all be useful tools in increasing the number of links to your website. However, there is nothing more effective for creating links than a good website with quality content that people want to read. If people like your website, they will link to it of their own accord.

Targeted Article Marketing - Revealed - 5 Creative Secrets to Make Money with Article Marketing

The popularity of article marketing cannot be ignored these days. Millions of online entrepreneurs and marketers from all parts of the world are using this technique as their primary marketing tool not only because it is cost-effective but also because it delivers great results in terms of traffic generation and product promotion.

Here are the 5 creative secrets to make money with article marketing:

1. Improve your writing skills. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or if you are already an expert writer. If you want to get ahead of the pack and consistently set yourself apart from the rest, you must strive to master and improve on your craft. By doing so, you will be able to offer your customers with nothing but the best every time you write your articles. You can easily increase your skill level by writing on a regular basis, expanding your vocabulary, working with other expert writers, and attending writing seminars.

2. Use a killer resource box. If your resource box is unable to convert your readers to potential clients, your conversion rate and sales will surely suffer. So, make it enticing and attention-grabbing by including your name, your expertise, a powerful call to action, and a compelling elevator pitch. You may also opt to offer incentives like free ebooks or tutorials to boost your conversion rate.

3. Produce more articles. To easily boost the number of your inbound links that can greatly help you strengthen your online presence and pull up your search engine ranking, strive to multiply the number of your articles. This can easily be done by producing short articles that are quicker to write or by hiring a ghostwriter.

4. Consider your potential readers. What information do they need? What are their pressing issues and questions? What is their preferred writing style and writing format? What is their gender, age, economic status, educational background, and occupation? Get to know the people to whom you are writing for so you can easily choose the type of information that they will appreciate and make your content highly targeted to their needs and demands.

5. Make your articles interesting to read. Never bore your readers by sounding too formal or too stiff. Instead, try to sound warm and friendly by using conversational tone. It would help if you can insert questions once in a while or share interesting personal success stories that your readers can easily relate to.

List Building, Little Black Books and a Really Big Chain

In the realm of once upon a time there was a term that was often used to describe a secret list of potential dates for the owner of the list. The term was 'a little black book'. The notion was picked up in movies, books and as a means of poking fun at someone else.

The idea of the little black book had, at its core, the idea of list building.

Others have used the term to describe contacts they might have in business that may be called upon when the salesman needed to reach a specific sales goal. These were customers you could count on to make a purchase if you just asked, So the salesman kept their names and only called when they really needed that extra boost.

Some things about marketing have changed, but not the idea of a list. Businesses realize they need to develop contacts that may have an affinity for their business and/or product line.

These contacts are needed if the business is to conduct an effective email marketing campaign. Because this should be an opt-in process the customer has the option of continuing to receive your email notices or be removed from the list.

I don't know if there is anything more frustrating for a business startup than to have a business in place with products to sell and customers are not beating down the doors to get to the product.

This scenario may have a lot to do with the fact that cyberspace is a really big place and it can take a while for customers to find any new business. Work hard at Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies and be prepared to wait. While you're waiting keep working at marketing strategies and seek to initiate list-building strategies that take advantage of consumer interests.

Build a little cyber black book that contains the email addresses of individuals who may be interested in your business and product line.

These names are important because they have a history. These names are not just randomly selected and placed on your list. No, these names represent either customers or prospects who have already shown enough interest in your business that they have willingly supplied you with an email address so you can contact them about upcoming sales, discounts or an expanded product line.

You wouldn't expect a business to assume that their contact list was every name listed in the phone book. While there may be potential there these business owners realize it may make more sense to work more efficiently by matching names against those who have already visited the store or made a purchase. These names provide a much better target for the business.

List building is an important means of taking small successes today and building on them for potential successes tomorrow. Virtually everything about marketing is designed to work like links in a chain. On their own they are just an oval shaped piece of metal, but together they can provide a significant ability to tow your business from startup to trusted business resource.

Link Exchanges

Should link exchanges be used? What are link exchanges? Do they really work? These are just a few questions that most webmasters come across at a link exchange. In this article I will try to help you understand link exchanges and if they truly work like some say.

Link exchanges are sites that help webmasters find link partners for the benefit of traffic. Link exchanges like www.linkexchangeit.com are one of those that help you get link partners for traffic. They are used by some to get more link popularity to increase their ranking in the search engines like Yahoo! or Google, which both use to calculate web pages ranking in the search engine results.

Over the years link exchanges have been criticized by both webmasters and search engines, even have been targeted by search engines. They have been called link farms and link scams. The truth is that they are not link farms, link farms are network of sites that each link to the other site for the benefit of high ranking on the search engines and most link exchanges are not so called link scams. How can you tell the difference between non-link scams and link scams? There are a few things that you should look at closely at link exchanges.

  1. Do you have to upload a web page or file to your site?

  2. Are they in the search engines?

  3. Are most member's sites spamming?

  4. Does the link exchange look professional?

If any of these are truth about the link exchange you should not join and leave fast as you came. It is important to look at this very careful because you are investing in your site and this could crush your site's future.

Link exchanges have proved to be successful both for getting you good ranking and getting more traffic to your web site. Link exchanges are one of the most powerful tools you can have by your companies side, but like all things they have a down side because they can be abused and used the wrong way.

Article Marketing - How You Can Massively Increase the Effectiveness of Your Articles

Article Marketing is something that thousands of people do to drive traffic to their websites. It's no secret that a well written article can be thought provoking enough for readers to want to know more about either you or your services. So, what do they do? They click on your link in your resource box. But are you making effective use of understanding the conversion rates for the clicks that you get?

From my own perspective, my main interests are in motivation, wealth creation and self defense. These are the subjects that I write about most often. However, I am departing from that here because I have discovered something that I think will be of benefit to all article writers.

I don't write about things like "the best sexual positions" or "cell phone number spying" or "how to increase your penis size" or "how to shave your pubic hair" or "how to tell if your spouse is cheating on you" or any other such subjects that get tens of thousands of hits. Why? Quite simply I don't have a website on any of those things that could take advantage of the traffic it would bring.

Now here is something that you will probably find interesting...

I have over 250 articles all over the web in hundreds of "far-flung" places and in many different languages. This number of articles will show significant trends when viewed in terms of statistical anaysis.

I know which articles are "ball-bursters" and which are complete flops. So, what does that tell me? Write more articles (in my domains of knowledge and interest) that are popular - obviously! What is the point of writing articles that nobody else wants to read? Now here comes the interesting bit...

By analyzing the results of these articles I am able to see which ones are giving me the most click-throughs to my websites. Time for a little mathematics...

If I have 1,395 click-throughs from 170,424 views of my articles then my conversion rate is 0.82%. That tells me that for every thousand people who read my articles only 8 will be interested enough to go to one of my websites. Pretty horrendous huh? Then again, there are millions of articles on the web and people's time is at a premium. A reader has to be REALLY interested to make that click.

So, if I have some articles - which I do - that are returning the following statistics, what does that tell me?

  • 8 from 23 ( conversion rate 34.8%)
  • 400 from 2,667 (15%)
  • 28 from 154 (18%)
  • 191 from 1736 (11%)
  • 23 from 81 (28%)
That tells me that these particular articles SMASH my average. Hmm. So, what else does that tell me? Here is what I think...

  1. - The headline REALLY worked because it attracted attention
  2. - The article summary/teaser REALLY worked because it made people curious
  3. - The copy (article body) REALLY worked because it contained good information
  4. - The resource box REALLY worked because people wanted to know more.

So, now, what do you think I should do?

  1. - Write more headlines like that
  2. - Write more summaries/teasers like that
  3. - Write more articles like that
  4. - Write more resource boxes like that

The other thing - which I have not yet analysed in depth - is that the keywords REALLY worked. I need to look at that more.

So what is my point is this?

Watch what your statistics are telling you. Once you get the "formula" correct then all it requires is for you to stick with it and you will see a LOT more click-throughs to your websites than you thought was possible. I may have more to say on this later. Stay tuned...

Cash Gifting Review - Scam Or Legal?

Gift giving is prevalent in any culture. So what makes Cash Gifting different and what are some considerations that you should know?

What Is It?

The information age has brought on the idea of Cash Gifting online. It is literally what it sounds like. One person sends a "cash gift" to another person, and so on and so forth.

Rather than having a legitimate product to sell and distribute, Cash Gifting programs eliminate the product entirely and just exchange the money. They claim that this is the whole reason that someone gets involved with internet marketing in the first place. They are looking to make a substantial online income and aren't as interested in the products that they are promoting. What they are really after is the money. That is a rather broad assumption I believe.

Is It Legal?

The Cash Gifting programs claim that they follow the stringent laws designed by the IRS to protect consumers. However, when you are exchanging money with people, what if something goes wrong? The likelihood of running into problems with litigation is increased dramatically when you do not have a tangible product.

One thing that is very concerning is the fact that whenever you go to a Cash Gifter's website, you will never see anyone's faces. This is concerning for the fact that with a typical website, you want to brand yourself. You accomplish this goal by including pictures of yourself with audio or video messages welcoming people to your site. The fact that you do not show your face on a Cash Gifting site, leads me and most anyone to believe that there is something to hide. Possibly that there is even something illegal about the process.

What Should You Know?

Cash Gifting is just like any other online business. The way that marketers become successful is by driving large amounts of traffic to their websites. This can be done online or offline, with advertising dollars or without. The highly successful Cash Gifters will be those that are proficient at marketing.

In conclusion, whether or not Cash Gifting is a scam or legal is up to you. There are definitely some red flags that go up in my mind, but it is up to you to make your decision for yourself. There are some people who have done very well with this business model. However, it seems rather risky to me.

How To Get High Rankings On Google And Yahoo Search Engines

Do you ever wander how some sites get top rankings in the main search engines and others do not? Well of course you do. The reason being is that these sites adhere to a system that the search engines love and in return give these websites higher and better rankings in their listings. There are 7 key ingredients that if implemented properly will produce the desired results for you and your website marketing. They are:

Step 1: Advantages of a keyword rich domain name

Does your domain name affect your search engine ranking? In my experience, the domain name has an enormous impact. However, this is certainly important if you are creating a new site and attacking a competitive market. However many of you will already have sites up and running that do not contain a keyword rich domain name so do not worry as it is more than possible to rank highly without a keyword rich domain name. One variable that modern search engines consider when determining which of the thousands - or millions - of results should be presented in the top slots is definitely the domain name of the site. The main advantages of having keywords in your domain name are that you can legitimately include them in contact details and links to other sections of your site and the title of your site. What someone may consider a good domain name and what in reality is in most instances 2 different things. Now I will give you an example of this:

Mr. Smith is creating a site that is going to sell vacuum cleaners. His business name might be Smiths machines and logically he may have that specific domain. However it would be more advantages to have a domain name containing the term vacuum cleaners. For example vacuumcleaners4u or vacuumcleanersstore depending on what is available.

Finally I would like to add please take into consideration where you host your site. If you have a site selling predominantly to the UK or US market you should make sure that the site is hosted in that country. So if a have a site hosted in the US but you are targeting the UK it is not in your interests to have it this way as the search engines will perceive it as a US site.

Step 2: Importance of the Title & Meta Description Tags

Every page title and Meta description on your site is enormously important, from the point of view of both the search engines and your readers. Always use your top keywords in each one of your web pages - it signals to the search engines as well as your readers what that page are about. Firstly in the title tags of your page you should use your top 2 or 3 keywords or phrases. If you are unsure what a title tag is, it is clearly visible at the top of the browser window. The title tags are incredibly important. As I said before it signals to the search engines what the page is about. In my opinion the title tags should not exceed 75-80 characters.

Secondly the Meta description tag tends to get overlooked far too much. It's one of those SEO things that usually get left to the last minute. Like the title tag a descriptive Meta tag signals to the search engines and your readers what that page is about. When someone does a search on Google they'll scan through the page titles and descriptions. Search engines, especially Google, will display the description you wrote in the Meta description if the search term being used can be found exactly in the Meta description you wrote. If you do not do this Google will crawl your site and just take the first bit of content it finds and place it there. By thinking out the outlay and terminology you use in the Meta description tag you can boost your rankings. With regards to length I would not exceed 200 characters.

And thirdly the Meta keywords. Personally I do not believe that search engines give this area the credence it once did. In the past people would just cram this area with as many keywords that they could find related to their site but this just does not work anymore. However, this area should still not be avoided. My recommendation would be to place your keywords in this area but do not exceed 250 characters in length.

Step 3: Keyword Density, Content & Blogs

In simple words, keyword density is the ratio of the word that is being searched for against the total number of words appearing on a given web page. If your keyword occurs only 2-3 times in a page of 500 or more words, obviously it has a lower keyword density than a keyword that would occur 8-10 times in a page of similar length.

As far as search engines are concerned, if a particular keyword has a higher density on a particular web page, then the chances of that page obtaining a much better search engine ranking increases almost exponentially. Not all search engines compute or evaluate keyword density in the same way and most have their own proprietary algorithm for calculating the average density of a keyword.

The placement of keywords, in any number of locations on the page, has different results in the various search engines as well. Hence, you should try to write sentences that use your important keywords and key phrases. My recommendation if we are looking at percentages would be no more than 3% of the wording should be the same. However in our testing this area really is not definitive as we have seen sites rank for a specific key term that only appears once on the page also sites that have a keyword far too many times on the page. What has worked for us is to keep it very much within reason and you will not go far wrong.

Secondly, Content. Content is absolutely crucial to the success of ranking and search on all search engines but especially Google. The higher quality and relevancy of the content not only will increase your rankings but also gives you a far better chance of ranking highly for what we call the "long tail search". You may have all your main keywords and terms figured out but ultimately we have no idea what phrase someone will actually search under using these keywords. It could be for example if they are searching for "health insurance" they may well just type in "health insurance" or they may type in "health insurance in the uk for a family". If your content contains these words or phrases that are identical or related you have a much better chance of ranking highly and thus getting more qualified traffic to your site. I would say that on a new site that content should start off at no more than 10 - 20 pages and grow slowly. Google will take note of a site that appears with hundreds of pages out of nowhere and initially view at as "unnatural" so grow your content slowly and make it unique and original.

Thirdly we need to look at "blogs". This is a massively overlooked area by most people marketing on the net. The two main places you can go to set up with a blog are either at blogger or Wordpress. Personally I would recommend Wordpress. Here you can create a blog that has so much Flexibility. The choice of alternative plugins that can be placed on a wordpress blog is amazing and all designed to be SEO friendly. Also it can hosted on your own server so it becomes integrated with your own site. Search engines love blogs because of new original content being added on a regular basis. This area really is a whole topic on its own but I highly recommend that you research this and utilize it.

Step 4: Headings

The heading tags will make your headline bolder so it will stand out and will be recognized as important by the search engines. When writing your headings, include your main keywords in the headings. Be as specific as possible to increase your chances of being listed in a reasonable spot in the search engines. For Example. You have a site selling Plasma TV's. You want to explain to your reader about different brands of Plasma TV's so in the heading you could put PLASMAS TV BRANDS. This will be in bold and larger font size this signaling its importance.

Suggestions:

Use keywords that relate to the page content in your heading tags
Have your keywords occur early in the tags
Use multiple H2 and H3 tags where appropriate

Step 5: Filenames

One of the simplest methods to improve your search engine optimization is to look at the way you name your files. Google give lots of importance to file names. You should think what are you going to put in your web page and then give it a relevant file name. How important is your filename? When you do a search in the search engines, most of them will highlight keyword(s) in your filename or your directory path. In other words Google is signaling the importance of filenames by highlighting it. For example if you have a site that sells electrical goods called electricalappliances the page that promotes washing machines should read in the file name electricalappliances.com/washingmachines.htm This is telling the search engine exactly what that file contains. This area is missed so many times but is a simple thing to do and helps your rankings. So please take this into serious consideration.

Step 6: Anchor text

Very simply Anchor text is the text (title) that appears within your hyperlink. Anchor text tells the search engines about the content of your web pages - what the page is about and how others perceive it. In essence, the anchor text is about the relevancy of your webpage based on a keyword. Therefore your anchor text should always be completely relevant to the landing page (destination page) and should contain your keyword or keyword phrase. For example. On a site www.electricalappliances.com the link that takes you to the washing machine page should read "washing machines". Also on the plasma TV site the link that would take you too SONY plasma TV's should have the anchor text SONY PLASMA TV.

Step 7: Quality incoming links

Inbound links are links from other web sites that point to your web site. The number and the quality of inbound links has become one of the most important ranking factors in Google, Yahoo and MSN Search. It's a simple principle: if Site a links to Site B then it is seen by the search engines as a recommendation; that Site A is 'recommending' Site B. The text that is used to link to your website is also very important (especially to Google). Try to include your keywords or phrases into the text that is linking to your site.

Now comes the most important part. Google ranks all pages on the internet by a system of page rank, commonly called PR. This ranges from 0 - 10. An incoming link from a page with higher PR counts several times more than a link from a lesser PR page. So the more links you have from higher PR pages the better is the chance of ranking highly in Google and other search engines. You build links gradually over a period of time. This is more prevalent with a new site rather than an aged site. This is because Google prefers to see steady natural growth. Of course how quickly you can rank because of this is really down to the market and competition you are up against.

Finally SEO is crucial to the success of any business online. The great thing about the internet is that it really is a level playing field. So there is nothing stopping you from ranking highly for a given keyword or phrase against even the biggest of companies.
